5 week handbuilding course

£150.00

Five evenings to slow down, work with your hands, and explore the foundations of handbuilding in clay.

Designed for complete beginners as well as those looking to reconnect with making, this course introduces three core ceramic techniques before bringing them together in a final, more intuitive session. Each week builds naturally on the last, with plenty of guidance, time to experiment, and space to develop your own ideas.

Week One
An introduction to pinching – one of the simplest and most tactile ways to shape clay by hand.

Week Two
Explore coiling to create taller forms, vessels and sculptural pieces.

Week Three
Learn slab building, using rolled clay to make functional and decorative objects with clean, contemporary forms.

Week Four
A chance to bring everything together. Combine techniques, follow your curiosity, and create a piece that's entirely your own.

Week Five
Return to glaze your work, using various glazing techniques, choosing colours and finishes before your pieces are fired for the final time.

Throughout the course you'll learn at an unhurried pace in a small, welcoming group, with all materials, tools, glazing and firings included.

You'll be able to have up to four pieces fired and glazed — one selected piece from each making week (Weeks One to Four) — ready to collect once the kiln has worked its magic.

Can't make a session?

I completely understand that things come up — but as this is a small group course with set dates, I'm not able to offer replacements or reschedules for missed sessions. The course is designed to be flexible, and missing the odd session won't stop you from getting a lot out of it.
